Great Value Parmesan Cheese or wood pulp?

A new investigation from Bloomberg News has found that certain brands of cheese have more than what it should – some contain wood.

Bloomberg's lab tests revealed that Walmart's Great Value 100% Grated Parmesan Cheese contained 7.8 percent cellulose, which is the technical name for wood pulp.

The additive is used to prevent clumping and is considered "safe" for consumption in certain quantities, somewhere between two to three percent. Human bodies does not have the ability to digest wood.

The tests were conducted using products purchased in the United States, no studies were conducted in Canada.

No word yet on if Walmart will consider renaming the product to 90.2% Grated Parmesan Cheese.
